LOMAFLOR is a database of plant collection records for coastal Peru and northern Chile from communities termed lomas formations. The database is specimen-oriented and contains over 8700 records representing ferns [PTE], gymnosperms [GYM], monocotyledons [MON] and dicotyledons [DIC]. Currently, LOMAFLOR may be searched by FAMILY, GENUS, or COLLECTOR using the menu above. Access to individual record citations is forthcoming.
LOMAFLOR contains the collections of Michael O. Dillon (Field Museum, F) and collaborators, and collection-label data recorded from herbaria: BM, CGE, CONC, F, FI, GH, HAO, HUT, K, M, MO, NY, SGO, UC, US, USM. The curators and collection managers at these institutions are acknowledged. The collection of specimen label data was supported, in part, by grants from the National Science Foundation and National Geographic Society. Synonymy for Peruvian species largely follows Brako & Zarucchi (1993) and for Chilean species follows Marticorena & Quezada (1985).
The political designations are abbreviations: Peruvian Departments [LAMB=Lambayeque, LALI=La Libertad, ANCA=Ancash, LIMA=Lima, ICA=Ica, AREQ=Aequipa, MOQU=Moquegua, TACN=Tacna] and Chilean Regions [TARA = Tarapacá, ANTO=Antofagasta, ATAC=Atacama, COQU=Coquimbo, VALP=Valparaíso]. Only the primary collector is listed. Geographic coordinates for South Latitude [Cord. Lat.] and West Longitude [Cord. Long.] are provided for most records. Author names generally follows Brummitt & Powell (1992).
